What is Reiki ?

The practice of Reiki is an original method of healing, founded by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 1920's where he had many Reiki centres throughout Japan. Reiki's natural healing energy works on every level, not just the physical, and promotes the body's regenerative self healing ability.

Reiki has been tested on numerous occasions in many states where tests have shown that Reiki therapy is able to induce actual biological healing improvements in the people that are treated rather than only to create a feeling of well-being.

The National Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in the USA classifies Reiki as a

"Biofield Medicine which involves systems that use subtle energy fields in and around the body for medical purposes "Scientific Research performed by institutions across the UK, have found that Reiki channelled by a Practitioner Enhances the electric, magnetic and electromagnetic energy fields, Known as the Schuman Resonance, that naturally surrounds the human body. These energy fields boosts the body's own healing properties accelerating the body's own healing process. Hospitals use machines to create similar energy fields like radiation for x-rays and ultra sound for scans for example, although we cannot see this energy we know it exists.

Reiki heals by charging negatively affected parts of the energy field with positive energy. Energy fields in the body each have different vibratory levels and Reiki Practitioners use their hands to affect and hopefully rebalance these vibrations in the negatively affected part of the body. Reiki is a non-invasive treatment that can complement existing allopathic treatment, carries no side effects and no contra-indications, and appears to reduce stress, help boost the immune system and stimulate the healing process within the body. It may be used with confidence alongside conventional medication and natural remedies because it acts in a non-intrusive and safe way.

Reiki is part of the "Prince of Wales's Foundation For Integrated Health" and is being used in various settings including private practice, complementary therapy centres, GP surgeries, hospitals, hospices, cancer support groups, post-operative recovery, for stress and depression, drug rehabilitation, prisons, HIV/AIDS centres, and in the care of the elderly.
